Hidden Life of Trees

The assignment, in this particular art competition, was to redesign a book cover. I chose Peter Wohlleben's "The Hidden Life of Trees," a New York Times Best Seller in 2016. The photograph was taken in the wash behind our house; it is a giant mesquite tree, probably well over 100 years old. I am fascinated with this tree and others like it, enduring for so long in the high desert, providing shelter to so many creatures, twisting and turning as it grows in the sandy earth, seeming to embrace its surroundings.

On display at the Tubac Center of the Arts, March 2017.
